that's totally why i stopped running. it wasn't just while i was running either... the running was making them hurt all the live-long day and night and next day... it was not good.

I'm so sorry. I hate knees hurting that is why I was so excited when the personal trainer on the cruise taught me a walking work out on a treadmill. I work out in less time and get the same or better results. I figured jogging 7 miles (which I was doing) or walking on inclines in interval workouts for 3 1/2 miles I might as well try it. I tried it and I liked it:) I figured since I'm getting older the less strain on my joints the better. Buuuutttt excercise is so important that even walking is a benefit better than doing nothing. OK that's it... LOL PS. we saw some cool things at the tidepools on Indian Beach. You were right it wasn't real crowded either.

i wonder if maybe the surface you're running on is hurting your knees??? with yours and traci's knees hurting it makes me think that it might have something to do with the track...
also--i'm doing the c25k:) i'm not totally couch but i definitely don't run and i need to be able to run for a half hour solid in case anyone orders that service for their dog...:)

I think we should go with the hips thing. Maybe add in some squats at the end of the run?? Or, just make a committment to each other that we will do them in the off days?

Ben and I ran sprints this summer and there for a while my knees and ankles killed me. It was like I lost all the bounce from my stride. I just rested for a few days and it got better. You may have injured them or maybe your body is just adapting. Look into glucosamine and condroitant.

I'VE LEARNED THAT ITS MUCH EASIER TO RUN IF YOU HAVE A REASON LIKE CHASING A BALL OR A PERSON. KEEP IT UP! IT KILLS YOU WHEN YOUR DOING IT BUT YOUR ALWAYS HAPPY YOU DID IT WHEN YOUR RESTED.

So, I have had knee problems when running. 1) it is important to stretch them out afterwards--kneel down and flare your feet out slightly so that you aren't sitting on your heals but on the floor. 2) it is also good to cross train. Particularly you need to build up the muscles around your knees. This is done by doing squats, weights, biking etc. Also, make sure that the surfaces that you are running on our flat. I have had knee problems when I have ran on the shoulder of the road because it was un-even.

There. I am done. Good luck.
