2%

That's it.

That is the percentage of people in California who are also LDS (aka Mormons).

It took WAY more than that 2% for proposition 8 to pass in CA. It passed with a vote of 52.5%. That means even without the LDS population, it still would have passed.

And that's assuming all LDS voted, and voted Yes, which I'm sure wasn't the case.

So, why are we singled out? Why are our temples being vandalized and our members being attacked?

Read the facts about prop 8 here.

This one stands out to me.

Prop 8 does not take away any rights from gay and lesbian domestic partners. Gays and lesbians in CA can already enjoy all the legal rights and benefits of marriage. The CA Family Code says, "domestic partners shall have all the rights, protections and benefits" of married spouses. There are NO exceptions to this. Prop 8 will not change that.

So what makes us the lucky recipients of this sort of treatment?

It's just not right.

Misty can I copy and paste this to my blog? You said my thoughts so well. Anything I could say would sound lame in comparison.

Sure, Lisa. But would you mind linking to here and saying that's where you got it? :)

So sad! Who are the people with so much hatred??? Not us! I hate what they did, but not them.

I worry about this, what it will be like when we are fighting it here in Washington. I don't think it will be long before it is on our ballot.

Unfortunately the G/L Community has chosen to take out their frustrations on the LDS church for Prop 8. I, honestly, am surprised that they have targeted the LDS churches and temples. Why does this have to be about religion? Nice post, though!

Wow, I guess I hadn't heard that LDS was being singled out for the defeat of prop 8. I'd actually heard it was being pinned on the newly registered Hispanic voters in CA ... whom tend to be very Catholic.
